There were big divisions of peoples social status in Maycomb. For example Aunt Alexandra was constantly making remarks about how high class the Finch family was. Groups that were victims of prejudice included the Cunninghams and the Ewell families. Aunt Alexandra didnt used to let Scout play with Walter Cunningham as he was poor, was a farmer and was low class. From the remarks Aunt Alexandra makes in the novel about the Cunningham family the reader can pick up the narrow-mindedness of the some of characters in the novel, and that in the time period the book was set, people just could not accept the fact that there were oloured people, people of different social status, and people who were just different in the sense they were not a stereotype of a Maycomb citizen, which characters like Aunt Alexandra show. However the Cunninghams were never as bad as what the Ewell family was depicted as. They were white trash and they were very poorly educated. By using the words white trash, Harper Lee has manipulated the reader into thinking that the Ewell family was so low in the social circle that they didnt deserve to be called people. They were referred to as animals to show how low they really were. The character development of these two families as made Harper Lee show that not only coloured people can be attacked by prejudice, you could be a different social or economic status and could be treated differently. Although people were seen as being prejudiced against groups, individuals were also targeted. One key example of an individual is Boo Radley. Most of the town is prejudiced against Boo as he doesnt follow the crowd and is not often seen doing things that other people of Maycomb do. Rumours and gossip portray Boo as a malignant and illusive character and children (being gullible as they are) believe the rumours, whether the gossip is true or not. They believe that food from the Radley garden is poisonous and run past his house from fear. By adding characters like Boo Radley into the novel Harper Lee shows us that only a few people in Maycomb accept Boo for what he really is, and respect him. I also think that here, the author is trying to speculate how judgmental and narrow minded, not only children, but adults can be by calling him different. Even though a fair majority of the Maycomb residents are severely prejudice, there are a few people who look beneath the surface of different individuals and groups. For example, Atticus. Even though Atticus does make comments about being common this character is presented in the novel to be wise understanding of most situations. He does not judge anyone by their race, religion, views or anything else that makes them different. He oes not seem to be in favour the racist attitudes in Maycomb and sees them be like a disease. From understanding the context the word is used in, Harper Lee proposes to the reader that the prejudice in Maycomb spreads from one character to another. Miss Maudie also has some non- prejudiced views by saying that she is proud of those people in this town who say that fair play is not marked white only. This quotation tells the reader that the character of Miss Maudie was trying to say that she likes and is proud of the thought that black and white people would be able to use the same things, as well as being allowed to be round one another. Eventually, nearer to the end of the novel Jem and Scout show their maturity and open mindedness, which is evidently shown by making some anti-racist remarks. I think that by adding only a few characters with non-prejudiced views Harper Lee is able to discuss with the reader on a subconscience level, that even though there is a majority who are always judgmental, there always be some people who can see people for what they really are, no matter what makes them different. One of the most important examples of a type of prejudice shown in the novel is acism. The entire town of Maycomb, with a few exceptions are racist. They see black people as inferior beings and treat them similarly. Mrs Dubose, a resident of Maycomb shows her racist views by making a remark about Atticus when she said to the children that their father was no better than the niggers and trash he works for. From saying this, Mrs Dubose is not only saying that black people should be treated like trash and not as human beings, but she is also saying, the fact that Atticus has something to do with a black person, that he is also as low as a black person. Compared to Mrs Dubose, Atticus seems to accept people for who they are, whereas Mrs Dubose just seems to add to my theory of the stereotypical characters of Maycomb being judgmental. Harper Lee also makes the reader realise something about Atticuss children. We know from the reaction of Jem towards the comments Mrs Dubose made, that Atticuss children have been influenced by Atticuss wise and open -minded views. In part two of the novel, racism is quite evidently shown by the jury when Tom Robinson is on trial. Atticus knew that although he was going to defend Tom Robinson to the best of his bilities, he would not be able to succeed due to the prejudice the town showed against coloured people. Harper Lee included aspects like the reaction of Mrs Dubose towards Atticus working for a black man to show how extreme peoples views were back in the beginning half of the 20th century, therefore she is able to show the reader what it could have been like if they were a person of different race. But as well as racism in Maycomb, there was prejudice against others who were just simply different. How to Prove Your Skills On Your Resume With The SPARK Formula Correcting hundreds of resumes has taught me that most applicants write their resume with no specific skillset in mind. They think about the main tasks they had in a role, write them up and that’s it. The result is often a weak resume that doesn’t highlight what makes them the dream candidate for the position and firm they’re targeting. Which is really too bad, because they’re usually qualified! Spark as in ‘spark interest’ and ‘spark your resume’, yes, but more importantly spark as in:  Skill,  Problem,  Action,  Result,  Keyword.And here’s how to apply the formula:SKILL: Compose your skillset strategicallyAs you can see, ‘skill’ is the first part of the formula. This is because the first thing you do is choosing a specific skill you wish to add to your resume. Preferably one from the job description. Not a task or a process, not even an achievement or a result. A skill.There are two types of skills you can include on your resume: your transferable soft skills, which are soft skills that ‘transfer’ across industries, such as communication and leadership skills. And then there are industry-specific technical skills, which are only relevant in their industry. For example, SEO analysis is a digital marketing skill that cannot be transferred to a job, let’s say, in customer service. However, even a skilled SEO analyst needs to demonstrate strong communication skills in order to communicate his findings and recommendations to the marketing and content creation teams.So to compose your skillset strategically, you have to extract the transferable and industry-specific skills the job posting lists and match them as close as you can!PROBLEM: Identify a problem you helped solveStep two consists in defining a probl em (either yours or your previous employer’s) that is related to the skill you chose above. Leading (Motivating): Leading or motivating is simply to influence the employee in such a way that their output for the task given is most competent. This includes communication with the work force, recognizing and dealing with the problems they might be facing and also giving them good incentive to put in their best. Incentives can include best performance awards. Further on leading also comprises of maintaining discipline within the organization. Controlling: This includes the analysis of the rate of achievement as compared to the objectives defined. If the rate of achievement is less than the original objectives, then specific measures are taken to make certain satisfactory results by increasing the efficiency of the output by the work force. Post Modern Theory in the Twenty-First Century As society continues to make the transition into the Information Age the general consensus on social theories is also experiencing change. The way that individuals interact has changed dramatically and is ever changing as evidenced by the phenomenon of the social networking revolution. Social scientists have long hypothesized social theories in an attempt to explain social phenomena and gain a better understanding of society as a whole. The general consensus for contemporary social theory has seen a shift toward post modernism.Post-modernism is the social theory that claims that society is now under the effect of the individual who creates a reality for him or herself. It is this shift towards post modernist-thought that has fueled the social networking revolution by allowing individuals to create an alternative realities for him or her self. Although post-modern social theory does not have any particular social scientist proposing it, i t has gained much popularity in recent years. Post-modern social theory holds that apparent realities are merely social constructs that are subject to change over time.It claims that realities are subject to individual perception and interpretation. Postmodernism also holds that there are no absolute truths and that individual worldviews are completely subjective. These aspects of postmodernism place much importance on the individual rather than groups like previous social theories. In a post-modern society individuals view the world subjectively, which allows them to create their own reality for themselves. Post-Modern social theory’s enablement of individuals to create their own reality can be seen throughout American society.Perhaps this is best evidenced by the use of social networking. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter give individuals the ability to create an optimum reality for themselves. No longer does a person have to be physically present to be s een and observed. Social networking allows people to have a â€Å"profile picture† which serves as a reference point for the appearance of an individual. The profile picture can be any image that the individual so chooses to be a representation of them. Having the option of choosing how you are viewed and represented has enabled individuals to create the optimum reality for them.Individuals are no longer subject to being represented by their actual physical appearance. Instead, individuals are free to edit, crop, and select images of them so that they can distort their reality in order to achieve an optimal self-representation. For instance individuals who perceive themselves as unattractive are now able to choose a profile picture that is more flattering to their physical appearance. Another example would be someone using a completely different person in his or her profile picture. The social networking revolution has brought much change in regard to the manner in which indi viduals interact with each other.No longer are interpersonal relationships contingent on physical interaction between individuals. Interactions are now able to take place electronically via the Internet. These changes in interpersonal relationships have been fueled by a shift towards post-modern social theory. It is the postmodern notion of the ability of the individual to make their own reality that has made these changes possible. Individuals are always seeking self-affirmation from their peers and being able to distort reality has become possible with the social networking revolution.

Many are easy to make and cause very little stress, but some choices can be extremely difficult and have significant consequences. The difference between making the right choice or the wrong one is often determined be a persons character, which is based upon the qualities of integrity, responsibility, and honesty. Gaining an understanding of these three character traits and how to build them is critical to creating a lifetime of positive outcomes. Honesty is the quality or fact of being honest.Finding a pen off the floor and giving it to a teacher is honesty. Not keeping the pen was respectful and honest, in order to reach self actualization and have integrity, you have to have needs met like food and water, love and care from friends and family, especially self confidence. Honesty means basing one’s actions on an internally consistent outline of principles. Depth of principles and devotion of each level to the next are key determining factors. One said to have integrity to the extent that everything they do and believe is based on the same core set of values.While those values may change, it is their consistency with each other and with the person’s actions that determine their integrity. The concept of integrity is directly linked to responsibility. Responsibility is acknowledging that you are solely responsible for the choices in your life. Taking on a job while still in high school and maintain good grades if very possible. Accepting that you are responsible for what you choose to feel or think. Accepting that you cannot blame others for the choices you have made.And protecting and nurturing your health and emotional well being. When a person is trustworthy, he or she can be relied upon to be honest, reliable, and loyal which means they have integrity. Hitler viewed his actions as reliable, honest, fair, and thought he was demonstrating good citizenship by eliminating a different race. The Nazis saw Hitler as a man with integrity. We saw Hitler as a cruel unfair man without integrity.Good character and integrity are easiest to demonstrate when facing public disapproval, but the true test comes when you can potentially get away with anything because then nothing is at stake but your own conscience. Trustworthy is very similar to truthfulness, uprightness, and honor. Truthfulness is when a person consistently tells the truth, and is honest. Honor is the equality of being honorable, and to show respect for others. These simple but powerful words are components of integrity. A person of integrity does exactly what he says and says exactly what he means.There is no conflict between his thoughts and actions. His actions are consistent with the values he professes. The other five are sincerity, humility, courtesy, wisdom, and charity.Integrity is about doing what is right rather than what is appropriate. Organizational Behaviour is academic study of organizations by examining them using the methods of economics, sociology, political science, anthropology, and psychology. Being of a multidisciplinary nature, organizational behaviour is all the more complicated to study as well. It is primarily the study of individual and group dynamics in an organizational setting, as well as the nature of the organizations themselves (culture, subcultures, psyche etc. ). Whenever people interact in organizations, many factors come into play. Organizational studies attempt to understand and model these factors and seek to control, predict, and explain them. There is some controversy over the ethical ramifications of focusing on controlling workers’ behaviour. As such, organizational behaviour has at times been accused of being the scientific tool of the powerful. Those accusations notwithstanding, OB can play a major role in organizational development and success. My six month long experience of setting up a design room in Romania was an eye opener into the aspects of organisational behaviour and how important it is for a manager to be able to deal with these aspects in the work arena. There were several problems that I faced and some of them are as follows: Problems at individual level Individuals make up a team. If there are problems among them, the whole team and its dynamics are affected by it. At Romania this was exactly the case which resulted in difficulty in making them work as a team, ask advise from one another, respect each other and in general increase job efficiency in order to meet targets. That is partly because the workforce in Romania is protected so there is not much that can be done by managers. Although the fact has been recognised by surveys etc. , nothing is done in the workplace officially in order to change things. The opposite is true for private companies however where management is very controlling and demanding. The human element I observed in such situations that the contingency approach to organisational behaviour in small teams only makes things difficult. Managers not only in my company but other companies that I had discussions with take it for granted that they will have to treat people in a different way in order to have their work done. Variations were stark due t the personal psyches of each individual in the team. This was however managed by trying to bring them at a standard level of thought and training. The above two problems can also be seen as a result of the fact that Romanians tend to keep their personal lives separate from the workplace (Steven 2003). I believe that managers should use Development Administration and Management techniques (Cooke 2004) to develop the workforce in places like Romania and other third world countries. Lack of responsibility Romanians, being used to the previous communist workplace, did not have to wrry about their work ethics much. They knew that they would have a job whether they did it well or not. This was something that didn’t change throughout the whole time I was there. It is clear that the reason for this failure was due to the fact that the external environment (communist culture) was at work here and an intrinsic part of their life conditioning. This ultimately meant that they did not learn from their mistakes and didn’t now show a commitment to improvement. Secondly I believe that the design room concept being new, it had to be implemented using change management techniques (Hay & Hartel 2003).

Fallacies Straw Man Arguments Fallacies: Straw Man Arguments Sadly, straw man arguments do not involve literal scarecrows. Rather, they are a type of fallacy: i.e., an argument that sounds convincing but contains hidden mistakes. But what exactly does a straw man argument involve? And how can you avoid them in your written work? What Is a Straw Man Argument? Could you beat this guy in an argument? Building a â€Å"straw man† implies constructing an idea that is easy to argue against rather than engaging with the real issue. This typically involves distorting your opponent’s ideas or beliefs to make it easier to refute them (even if you’re not â€Å"refuting† their actual arguments). For example, imagine an argument between Cheryl and Bob: Cheryl: Parents have a responsibility to expose their kids to learning at home as well as at school. Bob: Pedagogical theories that claim children don’t benefit from school are no use to anyone. Bob’s argument here is a â€Å"straw man† because he has misinterpreted what Cheryl was saying. And instead of responding to her suggestion that education can occur outside the classroom, he is arguing against something she never said: that children don’t benefit from school. Most straw man arguments are subtler than this. But they all involve misrepresenting someone to make it easier to win an argument. How to Avoid Straw Man Arguments It is possible to make a straw man argument without realizing it. This can happen, for example, if we don’t fully understand something that we are arguing about in a college paper. As such, to avoid this fallacy in your work, you should always: Read your source closely. And when you’ve read it once, re-read it so you have a full understanding of what the author is saying. Keep close track of your sources and cite them clearly. This will ensure you’re always engaging closely with the person you’re arguing against. Be charitable when interpreting your opponent’s arguments. Are you sure they mean what you think they mean? What else could they be saying? Look for sources that defend the position you’re arguing against. If they make good points, acknowledge and engage with these ideas in your work. Remember you’re trying to find the truth. If you need to distort someone’s ideas to beat them in an argument, you’re missing the point! With the above in mind, you should be able to avoid making straw man arguments. Just like any teenager she sneaks around, going to a drive-in restaurant to meet boys rather than to the movies like she told her family. She is rebellious and flippant and does not have a good relationship with her mother. She seeks to makes herself sexually attractive to explore he new self but her search for independence has a tragic outcome as she is yanked out of adolesence and places her firmly into adulthood. This habit of always needing to feel that she is beautiful is an indication that Connie is suffering from insecurity, or having an unstable sense of self. This insecurity makes her completely vulnerable to the will of others, and is one of the things that eventually leads her to run off with Arnold Friend at the end of the story. The character of Arnold Friend brings the magic of the evil type to the story. After much scrutiny it seems that Arnold is not just a simple villain. He takes great interest in Connie and he initially demonstrates his power by telling her details about herself as well as detailing what her family was doing. However, there is much more to Arnold. His supernatural abilities, though not particularly flashy, are definitely present. A closer examination reveals that Arnold Friend may be a personification of the devil. One hint is the fact that Connie could not figure out what his real age was; the devils reputation is that of agelessness. At first she describes him as a boy at the restaurant, then after she stares at him she realizes that he is much older than her when lines appeared at the corners of his mouth. although he pretends to be a couple of years older. She also notices that it seemed as if his hair was a wig. However, the most solid evidence that Arnold is the devil is the awkwardness of his stance. Connie noticed that it seemed that One of his boots was at a strange angle, as if his foot wasnt in it. It pointed out to the left, bent at the ankle. As the story climaxes and comes to an end, the extent of Arnolds devilish power becomes evident as Connie, interestingly, succumbs to his bidding and goes with him. This follows the premise that the devil does not take a soul as he has the power to do; he entices the person to give it to him instead. Arnold friend was the obvious villain, while Connie was the distinguishable protagonist with a rebellious spirit. Like any fairytale, she jumped headlong into trouble, leading to her tragic end. In the conclusion of this story, Connie was taken somewhere from which she could not return. Though she was not the only one to blame, Connie had become a different person to her family than who she was to the world. In one sense, Connie had already sold her soul to the devil by not being true to herself; Arnold Friend was simply there to collect.

A cell is the smallest unit of organism, having their own skeleton. This system termed as the cytoskeleton, works in a way that makes it similar to both the skeletons and muscles of human bodies. It maintains the shape of the cell and allows the cell move (NASA, 2004). The cytoskeleton is a network of fibers throughout the cytoplasm of cell which maintains cell shape, cell locomotion, movement of various elements in the cytoplasm, integration of the most important cytoplasmic organelles, cell division, chromosome organization and movement, and the adhesion of a cell to a surface or to other cells. The cytoskeleton is involved in cellular motility and in moving vesicles within a cell. It helps in the formation of food vacuoles as well. In the absence of cytoskeleton, the internal movement of cell organelles, as well as cell locomotion and muscle fiber contraction could not take place. The cytoskeleton is an organized group of three prime protein filaments which are microtubules, actin filaments, and intermediate fibers. These structural proteins are made up of three main types: The actin filament plays an essential role in cell progress when related with another contractile protein such as myosin to form actinomyosin. The functions of Intermediate filaments are to retain the cell shape and giving a certain amount potency and stiffness to it. These proteins lengthen across the cytoplasm giving cells mechanical strength and, as in epithelial cells, span from once cell-cell junction to another. Microtubules form long straight hollow tubes which naturally come up out of a structure at the center of the cell, generally near the nucleus, called the centrosome. It is responsible for a range of functions including transport of organelles and products around the cell, movement of chromosomes during cell division and forms the components of cilia and flagella. The polarity is also significant in terms of the direction of transport along the microtubules as dissimilar motor proteins are accountable for the directional movement. All the cytoskeleton proteins have several common characteristics, they are a helical array of proteins and they go through fast cycles of polymerization and disassembly so that their cellular skeletal structure is very fluid and rapidly changing (Gary Reiness, 2000). Cytoskeleton is contained in all eukaryotic cells. Current research has discovered that it can be present in prokaryotic cells too. It is a dynamic structure plays important roles in both intra-cellular transport (the movement of vesicles and organelles) and cellular division. Integrity of the cytoskeleton is indispensable for cell endurance and function, and probable functional consequences of cytoskeletal loss include cell death. Cysteine proteases such as calpain are highly involved in the crash of cytoskeletal proteins (Kampfl et al 1996, Posmantur, et al. 1998). Loss of cytoskeletal proteins such as spectrin and tau is a vital feature in a diversity of acute central nervous system injuries including ischemia, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury (Wang, 2000). The literature contains widespread information on the proteolytic degradation of two significant cytoskeletal proteins, aII-spectrin and tau, after traumatic brain injury in the fully developed brain. In the mature brain, calpain and caspase-3 create signature 145 kDa and 120 kDa BDP of aII-spectrin (SBDPs) respectively (Pike et al, 2000). Discovery of the bacterial cytoskeleton is quite recent. FtsZ was recognized as the first protein of the prokaryotic cytoskeleton. In 1991, Erfei Bi and Joseph Lutkenhaus discovered that FtsZ assembled into the Z-ring. The cytoskeleton was formerly considered to be a characteristic only of eukaryotic cells, but homologues to all the major proteins of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton have newly been found in prokaryotes. Cytoskeleton research is a wide area of research that’s why it is not reserved to specialists in medical field, but other scientists are also interested to study about it. Advancement in cytoskeleton research in the European area can only be achieved through a multidisciplinary approach. The manner the cytoskeleton can withstand all of this compressing and stretching while still being strong is the major concern of NASA. Research is still continued about effect of variable gravity on cytoskeletons. Researchers discovered a way to make the cytoskeleton stiffen and relax. They were able to make cells change into different shapes, too. They erudited that certain shapes make cells succeed. They also learned that other shapes make the cells more about to die. They consider that changes in the cytoskeleton are involved in these actions (NASA, 2004). To conclude, the cytoskeleton is the supporting structure for cells connecting the nuclear matrix to the plasma membrane. It plays a crucial role in the compartmentalization of the eukaryotic cell cytoplasm. The cytoskeleton controls cell and tissue flexibility during biological processes such as development, wound repair or activation of the immune response. It can be assessed that mutations in genes encoding cytoskeleton proteins cause a huge number of diseases including neurological disorders, immune deficiencies, skin disorders, deafness or muscle dysfunction.
